They aren’t waiting around.
Once again, Former President Donald Trump has been teasing a potential attempt at running for President again in 2024.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was recently asked by Fox News whether the Republican party is at a standstill while they wait for Trump’s announcement. Pompeo replied by saying “I don’t” they are.
“President Trump was perfect, perfect for 2016. We needed that kind of disruption,” said Pompeo. “If I come to conclude that I’m the right person to carry that mantle forward, I will go and try and make that case to the American people starting in the great state of Iowa.”
Pompeo, Trump, and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley were all keynote speakers during the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference in Nashville.
This annual gathering of religious conservatives is created to help boost the Republican party before the midterm elections. When asked about 2024, both Pompeo and Haley said that right now the focus was on winning congressional and governors’ elections in the midterm.
“I don’t think I have to make that decision until the first of next year,” Haley told Fox News. “I’ve never lost a race. I’m not going to start now. If there’s a place for me, I will put 1000% and we’ll finish it.”
“We will turn to that very question come to the end of this year, the beginning of next year,” said Pompeo. “We will pray, we will work.”
President Trump during the conference once again teased a potential return as a presidential candidate by saying.
“Would anybody like for me to run for president?” Trump asked.
The crowd applauded the former President after the statement, even though he has yet to make an announcement about running for president.
